The Only Solution for Compliant Building Services Design

We have dedicated ourselves to the building services industry for 40 years and have a workflow solution that is unique. We bring together design, analysis and co-ordination activities into integrated, logical workflows. By seamlessly linking to Autodesk Revit, via MEPlinx, we have revolutionised engineering design. The solution offers accredited design calculations for mechanical, electrical and lighting design and will also perform dynamic thermal simulation for the largest and most complex of buildings.

MEPworx Mechanical Module

MEPworx Mechanical is a module within our integrated suite of Building Services calculation modules. Working on its own, or in conjunction with our Psychometrics and electrical design software, MEPworx provides engineers with design tools to perform both routine and complex calculations quickly and easily.

Our Mechanical software allows detailed analysis of all energy calculations associated with buildings such as space or zonal heat loss, plant modelling, cooling loads, energy consumption, with the ability to export to iSBEM. The engineer can then design LPHW /chilled water pipe runs to ascertain pipe and pump sizing to all engineering standards. Plumbing and gas services to all standards can also be routed using the same techniques. Ductwork systems are designed and routed to determine all index run pressure drops to size HVAC plant using our unique and intuitive routing module. This allows users to export via MEPlinx to create fully rendered coordinated 3D views in Autodesk Revit, complying to BIM level 2 requirements. Alternatively, 2D designs can be exported to Autodesk AutoCAD.

Allowing detailed analysis of a buildings design performance including heat loss, energy consumption and Part L compliance.

Engineers can design pipe and ductwork services using the CIBSE, ASHRAE and DIN standards.

MEPworx Electrical Module

Offering the full range of calculations associated with LV design, including HV supply switchgear details. Electrical engineers have the advantage of being able to develop both schematics and physical layouts in parallel, so that physical cable lengths can be calculated. This allows engineers to generate schematics automatically from the physical layout. Both mechanical and electrical designers can collaborate to coordinate their designs, for example, when placing grills and ceiling lighting or radiators and sockets.

MEPworx Electrical is a fully compliant 18th edition calculation tool that allows users to work independently or plug into the BIM level 2 process.

Various workflows can be applied whether as an individual contributing to a design or as part of an integrated team working towards BIM level 2 and beyond.

Schematics can be created manually or – uniquely – by auto-generating the schematic from the physical electrical services plan based designs.

Our wiring calculations link with the lighting package, which uses the radiosity based method of calculating the illumination of 3-dimensional spaces.

Single cable calculations and switchgear discrimination calculations can be performed independent of the schematic for simple and quick analysis.

MEPworx is renowned for its ease of use, so whether you are a consultant, contractor, or part of a facilities management team, MEPworx is the software for you.

  • Design floorplan or schematic based electrical services
  • Import gbXML geometry from Revit or other 3D building modelling software
  • Produce a link to government SBEM software
  • Building & Energy Module: Enables the user to generate the building model either by introducing 2D floorplans and defining room spaces from the plans, alternatively importing 3D gbXML geometry from Autodesk Revit or other 3D building modelling software. This module also includes an extensive database of building constructions, that can be edited or created based on full U value calculations to BS6946. Engineering profiles can be added either from a database of NCM derived profiles, created, or imported from other previously engineered projects. Full shading calculations can be performed based on the building footprint, shading devices and other surrounding structures. Moving forward this then forms the basis of the development of the mechanical services within the building with full interoperability and consequential change filtering across the suite of modules. Simultaneous and zonal Heat gains and losses can be derived using CIBSE steady state methodologies. Full linking with TAS dynamic simulation software enables importation of results if there is a requirement to do so to meet Part L Level 5 requirements. Export links to iSBEM are also included.

  • Piping Module: Enable the user to design and quantify LPHW/MTHW heating, chilled water, hot cold and gas services to current design standards including BSEN 806, BS6700, CIPHE and CIBSE demand methodologies. Simply sketch routing on the building model enables the user to establish the routes and subsequent sizing, pressure drop and quantity take-offs on a system by system basis. Valve and plant libraries provide symbolic representation along with technical data used mechanically and electrically.

  • Ductwork Module: Enables users to derive and size supply and extract ductwork runouts on floorplans with all pressure drop calculations and bills of quantities included. Various duct fittings can be applied along with acoustic ductwork/fan noise calculations. Extensive databases of different shapes and sizes of ductwork to DW/144 are used with the ability to fix all ductwork attributes if necessary.

  • Psychrometric Module: Full psychrometric analysis from a library of template systems or systems built up from a symbol library by the engineer enable detailed analysis of each part of the Psychrometric cycle. This allows the engineer to look at “free cooling” or heat recovery, values of which can be input into the Energy module to size local plant.

CADLINE BIM SOLUTION

Depending on the project and workflow requirements MEPworx can be utilised either inside or outside the BIM level 2 workflow. Basic 2D requirements can still be met utilising traditional non-BIM workflows. To meet the demands of BIM level 2 and collaborative projects these workflows can also be utilised.

We all recognise the London Underground map where we decide on our destination, where we get on and via which stations we pass through which we can relate to the products and workflows.

MEPworx is fully compatible with versions of Windows up to and including Windows 10 in 32bit and 64bit modes.
